Not Everything Is Important: Managing Strategic Priorities to Improve Health Department Performance
Wednesday February 18th, 10:15 AM - 12:15 PM
Room: Marina 4
Workshop
Session Number:
Health departments are facing unprecedented challenges posed by budget reductions and workforce shortages. Coupled with demands for improved accountability and transparency, this has led to a broad array of activities and initiatives to improve operational and program performance. An unintended consequence is the creation of a culture of urgency, distracting public health agencies from their most strategic priorities. Join BearingPoint in this interactive workshop that will introduce participants to the Balanced Scorecard, a strategic approach to managing and achieving your highest priorities and communicating progress to stakeholders. Learn how the Balanced Scorecard can help you manage your strategic priorities, improve the performance of your agency, and create a culture of execution.

The Health care Coalition in Emergency Response and Recovery
Wednesday February 18th, 10:15 AM - 12:15 PM
Room: Seabreeze
Workshop
Session Number:
This workshop will examine the role of regional health care coalitions in emergency medical and public health response. It will provide practical guidance on developing and implementing robust health care coalitions in a sustainable and cost-effective manner. The coalition is presented as a medical multiagency coordination (MAC) system that supports the incident response activities of individual health care assets and jurisdictional authorities. Presenters will detail the management processes necessary to assure health care coalitions have response functionality and are not used solely to coordinate preparedness initiatives. Examples from coalitions currently being implemented will highlight potential coalition partners, unique organizational constructs, challenges with development and implementation, and strategies for overcoming these challenges.
